So if someone close to you is often drunk, you are probably doing some of these things:
LIVING IN A TENSE AND ANGRY HOUSEHOLD
- Trying to reason with him/her to find out WHY they are drinking
- Pleading with or abusing them to stop the drinking
- Covering up the distressing incidents that happen.
- Yelling, swearing, nagging or arguing with the drinker
- Giving the drinker the cold shoulder - living in a sulky silence
- Isolating yourself with the shame of it all
- Getting into arguments to vent your anger
- Looking for booze, hiding it or pouring it down the sink
- Lying about your family situation
But guess what? None of this works! Although they seem to be a natural thing to do - the actions listed above produce NO EFFECT on the drinker - in fact they only make matters WORSE.
But THERE IS HOPE - when you are ready, go to the next page: "A Different Approach".
